SMG unlawfully spends Rs 12 lakh on construction | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 29: The State Motor Garages (SMG) has unlawfully spent an amount of Rs 12 lakh on construction of two huts in its Srinagar premises. Official sources said the Deputy Director of SMG Kashmir, without any approval from the Government, ordered construction of two huts worth in front of the office building in Srinagar. "Both huts have proved useless. We fail to understand that despite having a full-fledged two storey building for office use, what was the need for constructing these huts," officials of the department told Early Times. They said that after the 2014 floods, the official building of the department was submerged and then accordingly it was renovated. "The office of the Deputy Director was also renovated, but surprisingly he refused to enter into it and instead gave orders for construction of two huts. He then used one of these extravagant huts as his office," the sources said. They claimed that these newly constructed huts have not been mentioned anywhere on the papers. "It seems that misusing his official position the officer got the huts constructed for his own comfort. Their construction was nothing but a total wastage of the money," said the sources, adding that the Government should immediately order an enquiry into it. Recently, Early Times reported how officials of the SMG are misusing Government vehicles for their private use. For example, the vehicle bearing registration No. JK01S, 0009, meant for top dignitaries, is used by the Deputy Director for his personal use with excessive fuel consumption of at least 10 litres every day. Sources had said that besides the Deputy Director there are many other officials of the rank of the Manager and Transport Officers who misuse the official vehicles. "It is the duty of the Government to take notice of such matters and ensure that no one gets more than his actual entitlement," sources had said. Also, there is enough evidence to suggest that the credit facilities of fuel at the petrol pump have been heavily abused by the Deputy Director and other officials of the SMG. Sources had said that the Government should ask the officials of the SMG to submit its invoices along with statements. Sources had said that the Deputy Director SMG has also unlawfully allotted vehicles to many officers for their personal use. |
