BJP Minister leading organizers in defying HC order | Punjabi concert at MA Stadium! | | Abodh Sharma
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 29: A group of people, evidently led by a BJP Minister and projecting themselves as sports administrators, are blatantly planning to subvert the judgment of the High Court which restrains allocation and use of sports infrastructure for any other purpose except organizing sports activities; by organizing a mega commercial concert of Punjabi singers in the garb of the opening ceremony of the national championship of a little known sport at M A Stadium. Organizers of the concert have scandalously attempted to camouflage purely commercial event as the opening ceremony of a sporting event to hoodwink the directions of the Court, to get M A Stadium as venue for their mega commercial activity and that too for free, or a negligible rent, in the process sabotaging the pro-sports directions of the Court. Huge hoardings have come up in the city and expensive advertisements are appearing in the news papers and local television channels announcing assembly of renowned Punjabi artists including Sukhi, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Satwinder Satti, Sohan Shanker and Nishwan Bhullar at M A Stadium in a 'live concert' during the 'opening ceremony' of 11thNational Mastogi-Do Championship, a little known sport, which is not even recognized. The organizers have even roped in big names as sponsors and are using their logo on the advertisements issued by them and most interestingly, the photograph of the Minister for Health and Medical Education, president of the host association is being used in all advertisements in an obvious bid to intimidate official agencies whose support is mandatory for the organizers. The sale of tickets for the mega event "Live in Concert" is on at many outlets of the city at exorbitant rates that has been carefully scheduled forDecember 27, which happens to be the last Sunday of the year. Sportsmen, who were relieved at the directions of the court banning organization of all other events except sports in the government sports fields are strongly resenting the organization of this concert and rue brazen attempt to hoodwink the judgment of the Court. "This is nothing but an obvious attempt by the organizers of such concerts which are held during the year end to conceal into the garb of a sporting event and make lakhs of rupees by hiring sports infrastructure for almost free" said a senior athlete. "Organization of such concerts in the play fields ruins the turf which is not repaired for months, reduces the stadium into garbage dump and generally ends up in drunken brawls at the place which is revered and worshiped by the athletes" he added, appealing the authorities of the J&K State Sports Council not to allot the ground for the concert. Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Shiv Kumar Sharma when contacted divulged that the organizers had taken the permission for organizing a sports event, and the Council was taken aback when such huge hoarding and commercial concert came up in the city. "We have informed the Secretary J&K State Sports council of the discrepancy and have called the organizers to sort out the issue" he said. It has been reliably learnt that few officers of the Council are already facing contempt proceedings for not adhering to the directions of the court in the same order and may invite the wrath of the Court for doing it the second time. An officer of the Council pleading anonymity told that the Council shall apprise the Minister for Sports of the facts and seek directions from him on the matter. |
