No relief for Geelani, other Hurriyat leaders also remain under house arrest | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 29 : There was still no relief for hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and some other leaders who remained under house arrest in the Kashmir valley. However, official sources said the restrictions had been imposed on separatist leaders to prevent any law and order problem. A spokesperson for the HC Aiyaz Akbar said Mr Geelani remained under house arrest for the past one month. The amalgam chairman was not even allowed to offer any Friday prayers in the mosque since the restrictions were imposed on him after his return from New Delhi last month, Mr Akbar alleged. He said a large number of paramilitary forces and state police personnel were deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Mr Geelani. Akbar said he and two other senor separatist leader Mohammad Ashraf Sehrayee and Mehrajuddin Kalwal also remained under house arrest. "I and Kalwal were released from detention after more than 26 days on November 27 evening and later put under house arrest," Akbar said. However, he said, two senior leaders of the amalgam Shabir Ahmad Shah, who also heads Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) and Nayeem Ahmad Khan, chairman of National Front (NF) were released from detention after 26 days. Shabir and Khan have joined the Geelani HC. The hurriyat leaders were arrested or put under house arrest a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting at S K stadium and announced Rs 80,000 crore development package for the state. |
