Pahalgam tourism bodies allegedly humiliated, not allowed to meet CM | | | Early Times Report Pahalgam, Nov 28: Several bodies directly affiliated with tourism business at this famed tourist destination on Saturday were allegedly not allowed to meet Chief Minister Mufti Mohmmad Syed who was in Pahalgam to chair first meeting of recently constituted Tourism Advisory Board (TAB). They accused tourism department of humiliating the Pahalgam residents allegedly at the behest of capitalist board members known for plundering Pahalgam and its fragile environment. "Yesterday we came to know that the chief minister is visiting Pahalgam and will be chairing first meeting of Tourism Advisory Board so we decided to meet him to present him a memorandum. We approached CEO PDA who assured us that he would arrange our meeting the Mufti but today we weren't allowed to meet him," Mushtaq Pahalgami, a union leader said. He accused tourism department of acting at the behest of tainted capitalist board members. "We were made to wait for hours outside the venue, humiliated but lastly weren't allowed to meet the chief minister," he alleged. "It is very unfortunate that capitalists don't like Pahalgam residents. Government and these capitalists have resorted to discrimination," Abdul Rehman Gani, who heads Pahalgam Hotel/Guest house owners Union said. He said that although Pahalgam residents aren't doctors, engineers, and well skilled but they know the best about tourism. "I started my career as a tourist guide. I know all the best locations from Pahalgam to Ladakh. I know the places which tourism department is yet to bring on internet despite facilities," Rehman said, while demanding space for local tourism players to the recently constituted advisory board. "The board has unfortunately no representation from Pahalgam," he said, adding that he felt humiliated after security and tourism department didn't allow them to meet Mufti. Gulam Nabi Lone, president Tourist taxi stand No 1 Pahalgam, Gulzar Ahmad Raina president trekking guide association, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, president Tourist taxi stand No 2 Pahalgam too expressed same views and urged the chief minister to revisit his decision regarding the constitution of Tourism advisory board. Repeated attempts failed to contact, Secretary tourism Farooq Ahmad Shah as he avoided repeated calls. |
