Early Times Report
Doda, Dec 22: During the past two years, deadly roads of Doda have claimed lives of 107 persons. Just two days ago, a 21 year old youth of Doda identified as Usman Gattu met with an accident on Doda-Bhaderwah road. But unfortunately the government has not shown a concern over the ever increasing tragedies by initiating concrete measures. According to the figures available 107 people have lost their lives and 530 were injured in various roads accidents across the twin districts Doda and Kishtwar in past two years. 165 road accidents occurred in district Doda in year 2014, which killed 31 people and injured 262 whereas in this year, 106 accidents reported in district in which 13 people have lost their lives and injured 162. In Kishtwar 40 people were killed in 2014 and injured 38. Till September, 2015 the road accidents have claimed 11 lives and injured 27 people in the district. 115 kilometers Batote-Doda-Kishtwar National highway, the only road that connects Doda and Kishtwar districts to rest of the world, is turning into a virtual death trap, with frequent rains resulting in rampant landslides and caving in of the road surface, posing great threat to the commuters. People of two districts have for long been accusing the administration apathy towards the poor roads and lack of traffic management being considered among the major causes for frequent accidents and avoidable loss of life. |
