After SVC, CVC takes cognizance of irregularities in JU | Early Times vindicated, again | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 22: After State Vigilance Commission (SVC), the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has also taken cognizance of complaints about alleged irregularities in Jammu University (JU) and referred the issue to the Vigilance Wing of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of HRD, Government of India. Recently, the SVC had issued a notice and called for a detailed report from Registrar of the Jammu University regarding complaint of nepotism and misappropriation of funds. The complaint had been filed by Narinder Singh Raina, general secretary of the National Secular Forum. He had levelling allegations of malpractices, favoritism, and other gross irregularities. Taking cognizance of the complaint, the CVC referred the matter (vide No. 22439/2015) to Department of Higher Education, Ministry of HRD for necessary action. The complainant had referred to illegal cancellation of interviews for the selection of Assistant Registrars, corruption in allotment of contract for conduct of Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET), tampering of exam duty record by DDE faculty, purchasing of medical books for a faculty member's daughter, illegal order for printing of study material, embezzlement in distribution of CM relief fund, closing down of PG courses in violation of rules, diversion of funds of Directorate of Distance Education worth Rs 2 crores, hushing up of evaluation scam in Directorate of Distance Education, etc. Early Times has been regularly reporting about these and various other issues prevalent in the Jammu University. Other complaints included persuasion of B.Ed & M.Ed courses by University employees without approval, illegal withholding of funds by Deputy Registrar, and nepotism in selection of lecturer in Department of Remote Sensing & GIS. President of the National Secular Forum had appeared before the SVC and stated that the university authorities were trying to conceal and hush up the cases of their wrongdoings and prayed for early probe in the matter. |
