Major portion of Sainik Colony nullah constructed on private land, not encroached, say residents | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 22: Contesting the reports regarding encroachment of nullah in Sainik colony area by some allegedly influential people, locals of area maintained that the most of the nullah is constructed on the private land and not the government land. Residents of Sainik Colony informed Early Times that many years back there were very spare houses in Sainik Colony. "The nullah was a dumping ground for dead animals but when the colony started developing, the dumping of dead animals continued to exist and upon the request of Sanik Colony residents the UEED department agreed to construct the nullah", they said. They further informed that as per revenue records the nullah was only few feet wide but to contain the water flow during rainy season the UEED asked the residents to spare some land so that nullah should be widened so that in future there would be no destruction by the overflowing nullah. "In anticipation of huge flow of nullah during rains, the residents agreed to give few portion of land for the construction of nullah", residents said. Residents further informed that despite construction of nullah the dumping of animals and other garbage in the nullah didn't stop, following which they again requested the UEED to cover the nullah. "Most of the nullah is constructed on private land of the residents and it can be easily authenticated from the revenue records and if one visit the area to find that nullah is only few feet wide on upside but towards downside residents have widened the nullah", they said. They also said that the covering and construction of nullah was done on the requests of the residents and there was no political influence of any person or office bearers of the area. |
