Problems plague State's health institutions | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 22: Notwithstanding the claims of Health and Medical Education Minister the situation is deteriorating in government hospitals with patients facing lot of problems due to improper check and care. According to sources the patients admitted for surgeries in Super Specialty Hospital are asked to purchase injectable glucose from market as the same is not available in hospital supply. Sources add that some patients surgeries are being averted in Super Specialty Hospital due to non availability of the glucose in the market and some have to rush their family members to Delhi or other parts of the country to supply the same. Sources said one whole sale medical trader in the city who deals in the supply of medicines agrees to provide the injectable glucose on demand and he has to supply the order to Delhi for which extra money is needed. Sources said there exists nexus between the medical authorities and suppliers on this account and poor patients are being fleeced for the same. Sources said failure of government to enforce ban on private practice of doctors has also led to mess in the hospitals with doctors deliberately delaying operations of the patients forcing them to approach private clinics to pay exorbitant fee. The patents who can't wait for months together for the operations are left with no alternative but to pay hefty amount in private nursing homes to get themselves operated upon. This all happens under the nose of the Government which has till date failed to take cognizance of the same. Sources said that situation has deteriorated in the government hospitals to such an extent that no body takes care of ailing patients and the attendants asked to deposit amount for shifting the patient to ward or emergency on stretcher are not later returned the same. In other dispensaries of the State, sources said that even life saving drugs and other supplies are not available with the result patients are dependent on market. The poor patients who are unable to afford the medicines are the worst victims of the callousness of the authorities, sources added. Sources said the deteriorating situation in State's medical sector has forced the young PG doctors to shift to private hospitals and medical colleges outside the State and presently over 300 doctors of the State Government are either on long leave or on unauthorized absence serving in various medical colleges and hospitals outside the state or abroad. These doctors are least bothered to return saying that there is no congenial atmosphere for their working in the Health Sector of J&K. |
