Factionalism mars State BJP president | No congratulatory messages for new president | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 22: A few BJP leaders are unhappy as their efforts to see their own man head the party in Jammu and Kashmir didn't yield any result. Sources told Early Times a few leaders worked overtime to ensure that they succeed in their design but had to give in as writ of the party high command prevailed at the end. "Despite Sat Sharma being appointed as the new president none of the top BJP leaders congratulated him. Nor did any of the senior Minister issued any statement to hail his elevation to the top post," they added. Election of Sat Sharma to the top post in the party has once again exposed the factionalism with the State unit of BJP. "Former BJP president and Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma tried his best to get his term extended but he failed to persuade the party high command due to the stiff opposition faced by him within the party," sources claimed. They said that new president has the "Ashirwad" of a few leaders from Jammu based in New Delhi and a Union Minister attended the party meeting in which Sharma was elected to the top post. "Many BJP leaders see Sat Sharma as high command's representative who has been given the vital post to clip the wings of senior leaders who have been calling the shots in the past," said a source. During the past two days BJP leaders and Ministers have maintained distance from the new president and seem least interested in reaching out to him. Except BJP's Kashmir based spokesman Khalid Jehangir most leaders have remained tightlipped over Sat Sharma's elevation to the top post. "The lobby which got Sharma elevated to the top post has assured Sharma that he would be given all the powers and he would be all powerful," said a source. Pertinently, the former BJP president Jugal Kishore Sharma failed to prove his mettle despite BJP winning all three Parliamentary seats and bagging 25 seats in the Assembly elections during his tenure as the President. "Sat Sharma may face his share of problems but his close proximity with the party high command and Prime Minister's Office (PMO) would help his cause as none of the local leaders would dare to annoy him," claimed a source. Insiders revealed that new BJP President has taken a note of prevailing factionalism in the party and he is likely to apprise the party high command about BJP leaders becoming "bigger than the institution." "The new President has reached the top post with the Ashirwad of his mentors in Delhi but his assignment as the president of the party, which came into the power for first time in Jammu and Kashmir, won't be that easy." Sources revealed that Sat Sharma's first attempt to convene a joint meeting of the party leaders found a few takers as it is an established fact that BJP leaders don't believe in sharing a common platform and believe in maintaining distance from each other. |
