National Mathematics Day celebrated | | | Early Times Report
Thannamandi, Dec 22: Govt. Degree College Thannamandi Celebrated National Mathematics Day by organizing a daylong seminar on Mathematics. Fifteen High and Higher Secondary Schools of sub division Thannamandi besides GDC Thannamandi participated in the seminar. Students made oral and power point presentation on the topics: Importance of Mathematics, Mathematics is indispensable for all sciences, Life & Contribution of Mathematicians, Causes of less interest of students in Mathematics, Problems faced by the students in studying Mathematics etc. Prof. Mohammed Asger Ghazi Dean Mathematical Sciences Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri was the Chief Guest on this occasion who delivered a detailed lecture on Importance of Mathematics. Principal of the college Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Raina presided over the function and also made a power point presentation on life and contribution of Rumanujan. Department of Mathematics, Government PG College Rajouri organized a function in connection with celebration of National Mathematics Day. The students expressed their views on various topics. Dr. Abdul Raouf, HOD, Mathematics delivered an extension lecture on the various steps to be taken to popularize Mathematics in Schools and Colleges. He also gave a power point presentation on Life and work of Late Ramanujan. Mohammad Altaf, Chief Education Officer, Rajouri who is also an eminent mathematician of this area was Chief Guest on this occasion. Head Department of Mathematics of the College and the CEO, Rajouri also chalked out various programmes to be carried out in the Schools and the Colleges of District Rajouri to popularize the subject and also to motivate and inspire the students in the field of Mathematics. Altaf in his guest lecture highlighted the importance of Mathematics in the development of Science and technology and other social Sciences. Nishu Gupta and Mohammad Arif faculty members of the Department of Mathematics coordinated the programme. The programme was presided over by Prof. Shabbir Hussain Shah. In his presidential address Prof. Shah expressed his anguish over the declining trends in Mathematics. He expressed his concerns that there are many Schools where Mathematics teacher is not available. Much has to be done at the School level so that students are attracted towards this subject. He impressed upon the students and the faculty to organize month long extension programmes like Seminars, quiz contests, workshops, Mathematics Model Making, Mathematics exhibitions and others in vicinity Colleges and the feeding Higher Secondary Schools and Higher Schools. Prof. AR Choudhary and Dr. MB Magray Ex-Principals also graced the occasion as guests of honour. All the faculty member and large numbers of students attended the Programme. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Bashir Ahmed, Staff Secretary. The Department of Mathematics of Government Gandhi Memorial Science College today celebrated National Mathematics Day and to pay a tribute to World known Indian Mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujana on his 129th birthday. According to press release, department organized three days Mathematical activities. The Director School Education Jammu, Sumita Sethi, was the Chief guest of today's valedictory function. The Principal of the College, Dr. Ajeet Angral in his welcome address appreciated the initiative taken by the department of Mathematics of this college. |
