PK confined to homeland slogan only: Pandit youth | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 31: Panun Kashmir (PK), which emerged as major voice of displaced Pandits in nineties after the mass exodus of the displaced Pandits from Valley in 1989-90, is losing its relevance day by day after the division of organization in many factions during last one decade now. While the PK leadership is not being now taken seriously by the government, the displaced Pandits too are distancing from the organization saying it has failed to plead their cause. The Panun Kashmir got major setback after the organization was fragmented into many factions during last over one decade and this was a greatest setback to the organization. And much to the displeasure of the displaced Pandits, four factions of PK exist at present, sources added. The displaced youth who are worst victims of mass exodus have been more disturbed by the role of PK which they feel except the homeland slogan failed to highlight their aspirations over the years, said Ajay Kumar, a youth leader, who is actively following the implementation of PM package. This is the main reason that the migrant youth after the announcement of PM's employment package defied PK's call and showed their total willingness to join the government services in the Valley, he added. He said even among the PK activists, there were now serious differences over the role of organization while the old stalwarts who nurtured the organization with their blood in nineties maximum were now silent and had detached themselves from organizational activities due to the failure of the leadership to deliver. The PK lost relevance completely after the displaced youth defying its call in 2010 participated in interviews under PM's employment package and joined the government services in the Valley in large numbers, said Rohit Raina, a displaced youth who has applied for a job under PM's package. Even a faction of organization tried to bring the employees back by manipulating statements in media over the years but 95 per cent of the PM package employees paid no heed to it, he added. Sources said when the state and central governments were working out various options of return and rehabilitation of displaced Pandits in the Valley by roping in almost all migrant organizations minus PK, they wanted to make the organization totally irrelevant among the Pandits so that the employment package was implemented smoothly and hurdles were also not created in the way of displaced Pandits' safe return and rehabilitation in the Valley. Sources said that among the displaced Pandits, youth had totally taken a stand against PK and endorsed every policy and programme of the government on return and rehabilitation of the Pandits in the valley. One organization among the youth which fully backed the government policy in 2010 in this regard and shifted its office from Delhi to Jammu to make the government move a success did not hesitate in taking cudgels against the PK and oppose its move of homeland. This organization not only defended the appointment of displaced females in Kashmir Valley but also encouraged them to go to far flung areas like Kupwara, Handwara as well as in Uri tehsil of Baramulla district to serve people there. This has been a great set-back to philosophy of Panun Kashmir, according to sources. Ashwani Kumar, another youth who has applied under PM's employment package, said the leaders of this organization had made it clear to the state and the central governments that those individuals who were settled in Delhi and other parts of country and who had managed good positions for wards in different parts of the country couldn't force the majority of displaced youth to live from hand to mouth and make their career bleak by not joining the government services in the valley. |
