Dy CM's directives ignored as illegal mining goes unabated in Poonch | | | Sumit Sharma

Poonch, Jan 1: The district administration Poonch allegedly gives no heed to the directives by the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh on illegal mining being goes un- abated in Draba and Gundi areas in tehsil Suranote. The Deputy Chief Minister gave directions to the DC Poonch after the villagers of the area made representation to him regarding lifting of material from river bed thus putting the lives of the twenty families residing nearby the river at risk. In their representation, they said that the villages which are situated adjacent to the river are at great risk as illegal mining and lifting of material on the river bank goes un noticed, adding, some people are indulging in violation of the Supreme Court guidelines Act and Rules framed for protection of such river beds as the said persons are indulging in illegal mining of sand ,gravel and stones lying on the river bed. The sand mafia operating in Surnakote is not curbing as day in and day out mining of the river beds and extracting sand, gravel and stones illegally causing great to the life and property of the residents numbering one hundred and fifty. Sensing the matter as a grave, the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh gave directions to the DC Poonch to examine the matter and take action accordingly. However, locals alleged that despite of directions, the JCCB machines and Buldozers are working on river beds that too under the nose of authorities. They also raised fingers on the working police. Meanwhile, DC Poonch Haroon Malik when contacted said that ban has been imposed in this connection, adding, beside this, the accused persons have been penalized.
