Fearing worst defeat, BJP to create hurdle in local bodies polls | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 1: After getting a very bad feedback from grounds, the BJP leadership has decided to create hurdles in conducting elections of urban local bodies including Jammu and Srinagar municipal corporations. BJP leadership has realized that if elections will be held in the month of March this year, party would suffer huge setback. Credible sources in the BJP said that in a recent meeting of the senior leaders of party it was observed that situation is not conducive in favour of party so participating in elections at this time would be proved waterloo for the party. Senior leaders formulated strategy how to sabotage attempt of coalition partner Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to conduct elections. They decided that workers will be asked to create hurdles in conducting urban local bodies elections at this point of time. There is a feeling among BJP leaders that party would badly lose prestigious Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) elections which is considered as stronghold of BJP so it is better to get the elections delayed. Credible sources said that BJP leadership has realized that PDP has nothing to lose in the urban local bodies elections because party has no stake in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and as far as other local bodies of Kashmir Valley are concerned PDP has strong holds so party is not afraid of facing people. BJP leaders have received feedback from grounds which is not so encouraging for the party. There is a perception among people at the grass-root level that BJP has surrendered everything for the power. The performance of BJP Ministers is also another matter which worried party leadership. None of the BJP Ministers has succeeded to mark his/her presence in the Government. Credibility of all BJP Ministers at the lowest ebb so elections of urban local bodies would inflect humiliating defeat to the party. Most of the BJP Ministers are against conducting elections of urban local bodies because results of these elections will expose them. And secondly, almost most of the BJP MLAs are also against holding elections because they donot want to decentralize their powers. |
