Jammu to have AIIMS campus only | BJP putting cart before the horse | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report srinagar, Jan 1: The claims of establishing AIIMS in Jammu besides valley are proving a farce as none other than the BJP's document titled "Achievements & Initiatives of J&K Coalition Govt" spilled the beans. The document which is eulogising BJP for its achievements for running the coalition Government in JK for the first year has quoted Deputy CM Nirmal Singh and Minister Bali Baghat, saying "Establishment of AIIMS campus in Jammu and establishment of AIIMS in Kashmir region are major achievements of the coalition Government." It has evidently become clear that the Government has no proposal to establish AIIMS in Jammu region and that only a campus of the same shall be founded at the place which was promised AIIMS. Sources said that the BJP leadership has most likely set the ball in motion and has hinted through its recently released document that AIIMS as an institute is no longer going to exist in the Jammu region of the State. Pertinently, the BJP earlier too was on a back foot over according AIIMS for the Jammu region, saying multi-speciality hospital would be given to Jammu and AIIMS shall be established in the Kashmir region of the State. By establishing the AIIMS campus, BJP is actually trying to douse the flames of anger which had dominated Jammu earlier. The civil society groups had been pitching for the approval of such a prestigious institute for Jammu besides Kashmir. On the other hand, the Jammu and Kashmir Government earlier identified land for AIIMS in Kashmir at south Kashmir's Pulwama area. However, even at that time, there was not even a single word uttered by any authority within the State dispensation over establishing such an institute in Jammu as well. Now, when no other than the BJP document itself is claiming about establishing just a campus of AIIMS at Jammu while this institute would function entirely in Kashmir, BJP has tried to put the cart before the horse. Ambiguity still prevails over establishment of premier health institute AIIMS in Jammu, as amid tall claims by the BJP, a document released by the party mentions that AIIMS will be established in Kashmir while AIIMS campus will be established in Jammu. There are a total of 79 initiatives and achievements of the State coalition Government mentioned in "Achievements & Initiatives of J&K Coalition Govt," the main being establishment of IIT, IIM at Jammu, setting up of district hospitals and PHCs in Kashmir and Jammu regions, construction of semi-ring road around Srinagar, comprehensive flood management of River Jhelum and its tributaries, modernization of NIT Srinagar, rehabilitation package for Jammu migrants, zero tolerance for corruption for which 63 officers were compulsorily retired, etc. The State BJP so far remained tight lipped over why it would only establish AIIMS campus in Jammu and not the full-fledged institute in the region. It remains to be seen what the year 2016 has in store for the BJP. |
