Dilapidated roads irk Kathua people

Kathua, Jan 1: Dilapidated roads in Kathua have been a cause of worry for the locals. A protest was held today against the Department of Rural Development and PWD for the mess they have put the area in. Ironically the construction work of road connectivity began in 2002 for 10 adjoining villages yet to complete after more than a decade.
It is relevant to mention here that Construction work of road began from Sounth Palyani to Tridwan Panchayat Tridwan under PMGSY scheme in the year 2002-03 and Ch. Lal Singh JK health Minister laid foundation stone and ensured to complete the construction work within month is yet to complete after more than a decade. Ironically, the road has been completed in official documents, liability of contractor worth cost of 1.30 crore has also been issue but the ground position in beyond to paper's.
Balbir Singh, Young Handicapped denizen of Tridwan village said the road is in worse condition since long, the construction work began few years back but stopped the reason would better known by concerned officers but public face several problems especially during emergency.
He said patients, handicapped and students are main sufferers of bad road connectivity.
Ramesh Kumar a local said concrete material raises obstacles not only for pedestrians but also affects transport facilities in the village. He has informed that the limited vehicles due to bad road connectivity add sufferings of commuters especially of students who have to attend colleges and schools in Kathua city.
Jasbir Singh another local appealed Rural minister to verify the construction work and must take action against tainted officers to complete the road connectivity in paper but nothing has been done at ground level.
Dharmpaul Xen PMGSY said the rural department started the construction work on 3.80 km road from Palyani to Tridwan at the cost of 1.30 crore but only 2.5 km road was constructed at the cost of 95.13 lacs and handed over to PMGSY in 2012 for maintenance.
He said remaining 1.3 km road has never been constructed due to lack of fund but its DPR has been preceded with high authority.
He assured proper and immediate action.
