| Mehbooba continues to explore options | | Interacts with party leaders, meets Kara | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad

Srinagar, Jan 22: Even after the core group of the PDP met over government formation on Sunday, Mahbooba continues to hold closed door meetings with the party leaders. In one such meeting the PDP president met the `rebel' MP, Tariq Karra who has been opposing party's alliance with the BJP.
PDP sources said Mehbooba Mufti is yet to take a decision over government formation in the state. The one-on-meetings indicate that the PDP President is still weighing her options and is possibly still undecided about the government formation, sources said.
The state is under Governor's Rule following the demise of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Since then the BJP had made attempts to form the government but the PDP President has been holding meeting with party leaders which keeps the BJP leaders guessing.
"Some PDP leaders have reservations over government formation with the BJP. Mehbooba is listening to every party leader to evolve a consensus over government formation in the state. She seems not in a hurry to take over the Chief Minister of the state," a senior PDP leader said.
Mehbooba, who has already been authorized by her party to take a final call on government formation, made it clear during the core group meeting on Sunday to the party leaders that she was not in a hurry to form the government.
"She is holding a one-on-one meeting with party leaders these days. Even she is also listening to those leaders who have opposed the government formation with the BJP. She wants to take every party leader on board and gets feedback from party workers before she takes any decision on government formation," PDP sources said.
Sources said the closed door meeting by the Mehbooba Mufti has been worrying the BJP leaders who has shown unwillingness to talk to many BJP leaders which has put the latter in a tight spot.
Mehbooba also held a closed door meeting with MP Tariq Hamid Karra, who has been critical of forming government with the BJP.
The closed-door meeting between Mehbooba and Karra, which lasted for over an hour, indicates that the PDP president is still weighing her options and is possibly still undecided about the government formation, said the sources.
Sources said Mehbooba Mufti has also sought the suggestions from her brother Tasadduq Mufti who has been active in state politics after demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
It was Tasadduq, a cinematographer who spoke in the core group meeting of the PDP. On Thursday, in an informal interaction with former PDP ministers and senior leaders at Muftis' Gupkar residence, all leaders listened him and he spoke most of the times. Sources said Mehbooba has been meeting the party legislators and leaders to take everyone on board before taking any decision on government formation. "Mehbooba Ji told us that she won't impose her decision and will go with the majority voice over the government formation in the state," he said.
