Not afraid of IS threats, say security agencies | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 22: A day after dreaded terror group Islamic State (IS) claimed that it's planning to expand its base in Jammu and Kashmir, security agencies on Friday said that they are not "Afraid of IS threats" and if IS tries to indulge in any sort of misadventure in JK the terror group would get a befitting reply. A top Police official while talking to Early Times said, "Our jawans have been fighting terrorists for the past 25-years. We know how to tackle them. No terror group can threaten us." The official said, "Security agencies are monitoring the activities of suspects and surrendered militants in Jammu and Kashmir, while troops are maintaining a tight vigil on the borders. There are very bleak possibilities about IS terrorists infiltrating in JK from any side." He said, "We are trying to figure out whether they (IS) have any local sympathizers. As per our information IS has not found many takers in JK. Even the local terrorists are finding it hard to survive and they are on the run." Asked about the recent IS threat and claim of the outfit that terrorists in Kashmir have pledged allegiance to the group, the Police officer said, "The number of terrorists in JK is not even in hundreds what support they (IS) people would get from them. They (IS) are building castles in air," he added. The officer said when US forces started withdrawing from Afghanistan, Taliban left no opportunity to claim that its members are ready to infiltrate into JK and they would wage a war against India. "They (Taliban) members with the help of Pakistani terrorists made a few attempts to enter into JK but they got a befitting reply on the borders and the Line of Control as alert troopers did not allow them to enter into our territory," he added. The Police official said, "We have witnessed many threats and challenges during the past 25-years. The biggest threat of terror spilling over from Afghanistan into JK was handled professionally and terrorists suffering huge casualties on the border itself made them run for their lives." A retired Army official while commenting on the recent IS threat said, "We know our jawans are capable of giving befitting reply to the enemy but we should not become complacent. Security agencies should keep a strict watch over the separatists, who for the sake of their vested interests can go to any extent." |
