Govt formation: State BJP leaders kept out of negotiations | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 22: As negotiations between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and People's Democratic Party (PDP) are on to form the coalition Government in the State, the BJP leaders from JK have been asked to "maintain silence" and "remain patient" till a breakthrough is achieved. Sources told Early Times that none of the BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have been involved in the negotiations and Central leadership is holding back channel talks with the PDP. "It's unfortunate that none of the BJP leaders from JK have been made a part of the negotiation process," said a BJP insider. "Our senior leaders should have been taken on board to ensure that coalition if formed runs smoothly," said a BJP leader. Sources claimed that PDP has made it clear that it's not interested in holding talks with the State BJP leaders and all the issues would be sorted out with the Central leadership. "PDP has taken a strong note about a few BJP leaders having held negotiations with the National Conference to form the Government," sources added. They said, "Prior to PDP President Mehbooba Mufti chairing her party's meet earlier this week to discuss Government formation in JK a few BJP leaders had held deliberations with NC leaders and had discussed the option of both the parties coming together in case PDP says bye-bye to BJP." Insiders revealed that PDP has made it clear to the people involved in back channel talks with the party the "Agenda of Alliance" should be approved at the highest level so that BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir don't indulge in "misadventures." Sources claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh have got it conveyed to the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti that "everything would be done" and she needs not to worry. PDP insiders said that Mehbooba Mufti knows it very well that it would be difficult to handle the BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir without the "Ashirwaad" of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top BJP leaders. State BJP leaders, according to the sources, are unhappy over them being left out of the negotiation process as they believe by doing so high command has send a wrong message to its coalition ally PDP that local leaders are "non-entities." "Many BJP leaders are unhappy over high command giving undue leverage to PDP. The only consolation they have is that they would be a part of the Government sooner or later," said a source. PDP insiders claimed that party President Mehbooba Mufti would be chairing another meeting of her party leaders in coming days to discuss all the options before she takes the final call. "This time around there is every possibility of the senior PDP leader and former Education Minister Naeem Akther holding the negotiations with the BJP and instead of the BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav, party is likely to appoint a lady as in charge of JK affairs who would finalize the modalities with Akther," sources added. |
