Jammu, Jan 22: With infamous incident of suicide by a scholar in Hyderabad university fresh in their minds, four scholars running from pillar to post to get their Pre-Ph.D submission conducted have threatened to commit suicide and sought the intervention of the Governor to save their careers. "We urge you to direct HoD History, University of Jammu to conduct the Pre-Ph.D. abstract submission as per guidelines issued by the Dean Research,", the mail forwarded to Rajbhawan by the scholars read. They further brought into notice of Governor through mail that they do not have any other option except suicide. "Since we are not being considered by the university administration, sometimes we think to commit suicide, as our future is at stake. We had become victim of conspiracy and internal bickering of the department. There is a lobby system in the University in which we had been caught", the scholars mentioned in the letter. It further read that they were mentally tortured and harassed for two months and sought clear directive to the HoD History. The scholars have also attached a copy of communiqué sent of Dean Research Studies to Head, department of History university of Jammu. "You are requested to fix the date of pre-presentation seminar before January 30. Inform the dean research studies office, concerned supervisor and the candidate before January 24, positively so that they can prepare their presentation", copy of the communiqué read. It is pertinent to mention here that a scholar Rohith Vemula at the Hyderabad Central University, had committed suicide over harassment by the university authorities. Same thing is being repeated here by JU authorities, as scholars enrolled under Dr Nirmal Singh (MLA) and former Deputy Chief Minister, are being discriminated and ignored by the University administration. |
