Jammu, Jan 22 : Food and Allied Workers today held massive protest rally at Press Club Jammu which was slated to culminate at Governor House, Jammu to present a memorandum of demands which was foiled at the Press Club forcefully by the local administration as also the similar rally held at Press Club Srinagar met the same fate at the hands of administration arresting poor workers. Pertinently, these workers are on contiuous strike for the last fifteen days which attracted no attention of the administration, rather the authorities tried to suppress the voice of the workers and did not allow the workers to move. Unwarranted police action was strongly condemned dubbing it an attempt to gag the voice being raised in a democratic manner to highlight their numerous demands pertaining to the poor workers languishing since long for their fulfillment. Their demands were revision of bag rates as per Price Index w.e.f. December 2012, grant of lead charges of city supply already provided to Director CAPD, payment of monthly wages to workers by 10th of each month, release of pending payments, implementation of Pension Scheme, replacement of workers having left the job since long, providing a Listman for city supply. While addressing the workers Bish Dass said that the strike will continue till the fulfiment of demands and strongly criticized the CAPD Department for not paying attention in the matter. He appealed the workers to remain united and vigilant against any ploy to disrupt the stike till it comes to a logical conclusion. |
