Ropeway from Mata Bala Sundari to Bhini: JKCCC to undertake survey | | | Kunal Shrivatsa
Early Times Report
Kathua, Feb 5: In a development that can go a long way in promoting pilgrim tourism in Kathua district, a survey is soon to be conducted to explore the possibilities of establishing a ropeway connecting Billawar tehsil's Mata Bala Sundari shrine with Bhini bridge, considered to be the base camp of the pilgrimage. The first step to set up ropeway (Cable Car) for Mata Bala Sundari temple is being initiated shortly after a gap of nine long years as the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Corporation is going ahead with a survey later this month to find out whether the project can be taken up or not. Initially, in 2006-07 the then SDM of Basohli Sourabh Bhagat, who was also holding the additional charge of SDM Billawar, has submitted a detailed project report to the government wherein it was proposed to construct a ropeway connecting the entrance of Mala Bala Sundari shrine with Bhini bridge. If the survey in anticipation of the ropeway for Mata Balal Sundari temple gives a positive result and the government grant approval to the dream project of Lakhanpur-Sarthal Development Authority then the decision could turn out to be a milestone for increasing the tourists and pilgrims' inflow to the ancient shrine. Moreover, if the ropeway project sees the light of day then the devotees performing the pilgrimage to the shrine, nestled in the Shivalik range, could get an opportunity to reach the sanctum sanctorum within few minutes which otherwise takes almost four hours presently to complete the yatra. "The Lakhanpur-Sarthal Development Authority is making concerted efforts for the Mata Bala Sunadari ropeway project. We have taken up the matter with the Managing Director of J&K Cable Car Corporation. Presently, surveys of Patnitop and Mantalai cable car projects are going on. Hopefully, survey for Mata Bala Sundari ropeway project would be taken up in the month of March and the team of experts from Cable Car Corporation would extensively tour the entire area to explore possibilities of setting up cable car," said Dr Bharat Bhushan, Chief Executive Officer, Lakhanpur-Sarthal Development Authority. |
