DPC to meet on Sunday | Promotions of IPS officers | | Sumit Sharma
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 5: The stage is set for the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) to promote the J&K cadre IPS officers, sources told Early Times on Friday. They said the DPC is likely to be held on Sunday as the panel headed by Chief Secretary B R Sharma has been asked to promote senior IPS officers to different ranks including the Director General, Additional Director General and Inspector General and Deputy Inspector General of Police. Sources said that if DPC is not held on Sunday, then it could get delayed as the Governor N N Vohra is reportedly going on a 4-day leave from February 9 and the 10-day time sought by the BJP to form the government would end on February 13. Sources said that S P Vaid, R Doley and Navin Aggarwal are likely to be promoted as DGPs as they have completed mandatory 30 years of service. The panel would also give green signal for promotion of two IG-level officers to ADG level, sources said. These officers included R R Swain and A K Choudary. The expected DPC is likely to meet the long pending demands of the promotions of IPS officers of 1997 batch from the post DIGs to IGPs as their promotions are due for the past one year. However, highly placed sources said that out of six IPS officers, only three are in DPCs circle due to paucity of the IGP rank posts . The department has a total of six IPS officers of 1997 batch. One of them Viplav Kumar who was on deputation to the Centre has been given the additional charge as IGP Traffic besides his own posting as DIG Traffic. The remaining five 1997 batch DIGs included Gareeb Dass, Alok Kumar, Surinder Kumar Gupta, Vijay Kumar and Johny William. Earlier, desperate for promotion, some IPS officers of 1997 had knocked the door of Governor N N Vohra for appointment, which was negated . |
