HC notice to KU for continuing with distance mode B.Ed | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 20: The state high court has sought a response from Kashmir University by to a petition, challenging varsity's decision to continue with B.Ed programme through distance mode against the recommendations by Justice Verma Report. A single bench of the court comprising Justice B S Walia also asked the varsity to produce entire record pertaining to selection process of B. Ed courses through distance mode. The petitioner questioned Kashmir University's admission notification (no 14 of 2015) for B. Ed programme for Session 2015 issued by the office of the Dean Academic Affairs and also selection notification (no. 1 of February 2016) by the office of the convener of admission for B.Ed programme through distance mode. The petitioner said that a meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Minister for Education in which representatives from government, universities and other stake holder participated. The agenda of the meeting, the petitioner said, was to discuss implementation of recommendation of justice Verma Commission Report and other aspects. The petitioner said it was agreed by the Kashmir University to discontinue the B. Ed and M. Ed programmes through distance mode forthwith. He said recommendation no. 8 of Justice Verma committee states that as a matter of policy, the first professional degree/diploma in teacher education should be offered only in face to face mode. He said the university has acted in derogation of its own decision taken in the meeting while Jammu University has already discontinued the B.Ed programme through the distance mode. |
