Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Apr 9: The state government has ignored the private schools across the state as fee fixation committees have remained limited to papers.
Hundreds of students along with their parents are in a state of melancholy over the fee fixation committees.
Sources said that in the recent past government had ordered for setting up of fee fixation committees which will look into the problems faced by the private schools across the state. The Supreme Court had issued an order that the private schools can hike 10- 15 percent in the fee, but the government has not implemented the same order so for, sources said.
"There cannot be hike in fee unless the fee fixation committee will not give orders to these institutions. Despite the passing of many months together scores of institutions are suffering badly which prompts the school managements to hike the fees without any delay," said sources.
Sources said that government's move to regulate fees collected by private schools is a breather to thousands of parents whose children are enrolled in different institutions in the state.
A group of parents from Tangmarg area said, "as per the recent government order private schools have to get clearance from a committee that has been set up to fix the fee structure of schools. School managements now will face the brunt if the order is not followed as they may be derecognized."
They said that, with the government having a new leader in the form of Mehbooba Mufti, it is to be seen whether education will receive the same measure of attention and tending.
Meanwhile, Chairman Private Schools Coordination Forum North Kashmir Syed Mushtaq said, "The biggest drawback with the policies framed by political executives today is that they do not stand the test of time. With power changing hands and new political executives taking over policies become the first target."
He said the policies will do a great service to the derailed education system if government chooses to throw its weight behind them and be persistent in its efforts. Policies need to be framed in a manner that they do not contradict views or plans of governments to come.
Hundreds of files related to academics are still pending in BOSE and direction office for clearances, due to which students and the management are suffering badly, said Mushtaq.
"The regulation of fees charged by private schools is a good move and has been on the cards for a while. The government must stick to its order and do regular inspections to make it successful. People of the state can only hope that the order is not revoked at mere change of guard, as has been witnessed with certain policies and plans," said the Chairman.
