| JU's Kathua campus deprived of English stream | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 9: In another case of manipulation engineered by Jammu University to snatch English stream from off site campus Kathua has forced the aspirants of Kathua district to take admission in PG English at main campus University of Jammu.
The sources informed Early Times that in the year 2007 when Prof R. D. Sharma was Rector Kathua campus, the posts of Assistant Professors in the streams of English and MBA were advertised for appointments.
Accordingly interviews were held for both the streams, but ignoring well qualified aspirants with NET/SET in MBA subjects who deserved preference in the interview, a female candidate of commerce subject who was scholar and blue eyed of the then Rector, was allegedly selected for the post of Assistant Professor MBA Kathua campus rejecting deserving candidates of the concerned subject which speaks enough of ingrained tendency of nepotism and favouritism of so called a very honest person now sitting at helms of varsity affairs.
The sources further disclosed that about three months before interview for the post of Assistant Professor English for Kathua campus, the interview in the same stream was held in Department of English Jammu University and the then top officer of varsity wanted a particular female candidate to be selected for the post which was reportedly resisted by the then HOD of English and whole process of interview was deferred.
The sources further told that in order to adjust the blue eyed candidate, a post of Assistant Professor English was created in Kathua campus and the same female candidate was selected for the post of AP English during the tenure of former Rector Prof R. D.Sharma, further informed, adding that although the sitting Rector could have refused being Head of Kathua campus , but, allegedly, with his plausible connivance to appease his boss, the selected female candidate was brought back along with the post as AP English in Law School University of Jammu under a secret deal at the cost of aspiring students of Kathua district and also those living in its remote area, who are now compelled to study PG English at Jammu with others in far-flung areas unable to afford higher studies at Jammu.
The sources further told that selection of both these candidates was the corollary of an alleged secret understanding between two former Heads of Kathua campus and Jammu University respectively which facilitated the commerce candidate to occupy the post of AP, MBA ignoring the right of available candidate in concerned subject and bringing back AP English to Law School JU got selected and meant for running English course in Kathua campus.
Assailing the same pick and choose policy still being the promoted in University, the sources bemoaned that if such a wicked trend is not put to halt by next higher authorities, which means business devoid of discrimination and unfairness, the days are not far off when the already decaying graph on all fronts , will go from bad to worse notwithstanding its falling at number 64 out of 100 universities of the country which is something not permanent. |
