| NIT row: After Jammu now Udh students block Kashmir highway | | |  Ashwani Sharma

Udhampur, Apr 9: Expressing solidarity with non local students at NIT Srinagar, the students drawn from different schools and colleges of Udhampur today blocked the Srinagar-Jammu highway amid supporting the demands raised by non local students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.
After non-Kashmiri students were brutally beaten on Tuesday, the condemnation and protests have erupted across Jammu region and today a large number of students from Udhampur assembled at National Highway. Students including boys and girls from Government Degree College (Boys), Post Graduate College, Women's College, Bhasker College after boycotting their classes held demonstrations to lodge their protest against use of force" on non-Kashmiri students at the NIT.
Raising slogans in demand of withdrawal of FIR against non local students and alleging police of adopting dual standards, the protestors alleged the police is targeting non local students while it has let others who raised anti national slogans were let to go scot free. Holding tricolours and banners depicting demands of non local students, the protesting students also condemned the police action on peaceful protestors in NIT Srinagar.
Protestors also said if the govt don't take action against erring cops who registered FIR against students and are responsible for use of force on innocent students, the students shall continue their protest.
The students also blocked the ever busy national highway road, the senior administrative officials including ADC Angrej Singh Rana , Addl SP Mohan Lal Kainth , DySP (Hqrs) Gourav Mahanjan and SHO Udhampur rushed to the spot and did their best to pacify the protesting students. However after protesting hours together, the protestors lifted their protest then the police resumed the normal traffic on highway |
