| Istanbul meet: OIC can't speak for Jammu, Ladakh | | |

JAMMU, Apr 14: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Contact Group (OICCG) on Jammu and Kashmir has, according to Radio Pakistan, again reaffirmed its continued support to the so-called Kashmiris' right to self-determination. The OIC Summit is held once in three years.
The OICCG meeting was chaired by the OIC Secretary General's Special Representative on Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah Al-Alim, on the sidelines of 13th OIC Summit in Istanbul.
According to a report, the Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, led Pakistani delegation at the meeting. The report further said that "the special representative on J&K also regretted some attempts to equate the Kashmiris' struggle with terrorism, and emphasized that the Kashmiris are solely striving to achieve their inalienable right to self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions".
Sartaj Aziz, who addressed the meeting, reiterated Pakistan's diplomatic, moral and political support to the people of Kashmir (read Kashmiri-speaking ethnic Sunnis) in what was called the "just struggle for realization of their right to self-determination in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions".
The anti-India Istanbul OIC meet batted for the resolution of the so-called Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir State.
Ironically, the Indian Foreign Office has not reacted so far to what transpired during the Istanbul OIC meet. It should have reacted immediately to put things in perspective by telling the OIC that Kashmiri-speaking Sunnis, who have been ruling the roost in the State since 1947 and are involved in the anti-India movement, do not represent the general will of the people of the State and that the people of Jammu and Ladakh not only hate and despise the right to self-determination doctrine, but have been fighting since 1947 for their complete merger with India.
Kashmiri-speaking Sunnis, it needs to be underlined, constitute only about 22 per cent of the State's population and occupy less than 5 per cent of the State's area. As for the people of Jammu and Ladakh, they constitute half of the State's population and occupy over 88 per cent of the State's land area. No one can, not even New Delhi, can impose the will of the Pakistan-backed Kashmiri seditionists like Syed Ali Shah Geelani on the nationalists of the State. Any move on the part of anyone to impose their will on Jammu and Ladakh will result in explosions of portentous dimensions in these two regions. |
