Ompora flats allotment under employees union's influence? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 10: Recent allotment of residential flats in favour of Darbar move employees more than solving any problem of accommodation crisis have created only furore among the employees who have been waiting for years as also a number of those working with the J&K legislature who have been left out. Fuming, the latter cry foul in the allotment and attribute it all to the influence of Civil Secretariat Employees Union which holds upper hand in deciding the names rather than the authorities at the helm. Sources said the government which is trying to overcome the ever increasing crisis of accommodation for its employees with Darbar Move is facing anger of those whom Estates Department has put in its waiting list since the year 2012-2013 under different entitlements. Though the number of allotments at Ompora near Srinagar is not more than 32, it is far from being fair and transparent sources said adding that Estates Department authorities too are under extreme pressure from various quarters which is why the flats have not gone to real deserving lot. What has aggravated the resentment is also the fact that despite the Estates Department waiting list showing a sizable number of employees from Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council who have applied for the accommodation 4-5 years back have been ignored and kept out of the allotment list, said the sources. Pertinently, for some senior employees, there is strong recommendation and reference as mentioned by the Estates Department, by the Secretary of the Assembly and for others by the concerned ministers, yet they failed to get the newly constructed flats at Ompora for which they were hopeful this time. Hopes have also dashed for some officials who have reached the age of superannuation, sources further said, adding that few of them are in the service since 1985 and still waiting to get a decent government accommodation where they could stay with their families after Darbar shifts to summer capital. Sources said though more such flats are coming up at Pampore, at a distance of nearly 25 kms from the Secretariat, the Move employees are not upbeat about this nor so keen to get accommodation here. Most of the employees feel it is far off from the city and commuting would get difficult in view of infamous traffic snarls seen at peak hours. However, that remains to be seen as to who all and how many employees/officials would be accommodated in this residential accommodation as and when the allotment is made. |
