RAMKY forgets National Highway, macadamizes politician's pathways | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, May 10: RAMKY, a Hyderabad-based construction giant which missed many deadlines in completing the widening of Srinagar-Banihal National highway stretch, has now started macadmedizing pathways and lawns of a political family in Bijbehara. Pictures of vehicles ferrying the construction material to the residence of a powerful politician in South Kashmir, are in possession of ET. Close associates of the politician, who were present when the company the vehicles loaded with macadam arrived at later newly constructed residence too confirmed to ET that vehicles, roller and laborers were from RAMKY Construction Company; however they wished to remain anonymous. Ironically, company is obliging politicians and showering undue favors on them at a time when the company has failed to complete the project awarded five years ago even the company is not in position the release the payments of local contractors and drivers whose vehicles they hired. This development surprised the locals as the construction company with which they are familiar from last five years, has failed to complete four-lining of National highway despite the passage of over five years. RAMKY, Hyderabad-based firm was entrusted widening of the national highway this side of the Jawahar Tunnel, with the work on the project starting in June 2011. However in last five years the company missed two deadlines set by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and only 65% work done on 4-lanning of Srinagar-Banihal stretch till April 2016. December 2014 was set first deadline for the four-lanning of 70-km-long Anantnag-Srinagar-Banihal portion of the Srinagar-Jammu highway, which Ramky Constructions missed but managed to get an extension of two years, however later the company missed second deadline as well. Locals said that Ramky agency is taking undue advantage of the sleeping administration in Kashmir, politicians, who receive undue benefits from them. Deputy General Manger, RAMKY, B K Rai when contacted expressed ignorance about the issue and said that he needs confirm it from his higher authorities. "Actually I am out of station, I don't have knowledge about it, but let me first confirm from higher authorities who could have passed the instructions to lower staff for doing this thing which we usually don't do," he said and dropped the call. |
