Employees violate CSR rules, hold convention on working day | | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 11: Hundreds of employees who are on pay-rolls of different government departments today made people to suffer since they participated in a day long convention held in the North Kashmir's border district of Kupwara. Reports reaching here said that hundreds of employees under the banner of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) headed by Abdul Qayoom Wani took part in the convention that carried on for the entire course of the day. The EJAC leaders who spoke during the convention took potshots at the state government and alleged delay in fulfillment of their demands. Since today was a working day one fails to understand who gave the EJAC the permission to hold the convention. The employees who took part in the convention belonged to different government departments and they virtually kept the people hostage who would have visited the respective offices for getting their work done. "The heads of various departments need to be taken to task and it should be enquired who allowed these employees to take part in the day long convention. Trade unionism is a good thing, but not at the cost of causing problems and hardships to the common masses. Today's convention was a blatant violation of peoples' rights and as such corrective action needs to be taken," said a group of people while sharing views with Early Times. It has been learnt from sources that employees and their leaders who took part in the convention belonged to Health, Education, Forest, Agriculture and some other government departments. The employees remained absent from their duties and took part in the convention much to the displeasure and discomfort of the common masses. "The state government needs to act tough against the employees who do not attend to their duties regularly. At the same time honest, punctual and regular employees need to be awarded so that they excel in future. However, the government needs to be proactive in this regard and take drastic measures so that better results are achieved," said the group of people. Addressing the employees Abdul Qayoom Wani said that chief minister Mehbooba Mufti assured them to address all their issues during a meeting in Civil Secretariat on Monday. However, he said that some politicians and bureaucrats are conspiring to weaken trade unionism in the state. He said that EJAC will fight against the designs of these people and will mobilize employees in the districts to fight against these conspiracies and machinations. The other EJAC leaders who attended the convention were Shabnum Fayaz, Farooq Ahmad Trali, Khurshid Ahmad Bhat, Haji Bashir, Shabir Ahmad Langoo, Dr.Manzoor, Manzoor Ahmad Pampori, Farooq Ahmad Khan, Khalid Mehmood Khan, Mohammad Rafiq Rather, Ghulam Rasool Bhat, Mohammad Afzal Bhat, Latief Ahmad Malik, Tariq Ahmad Sofi, WajahatKirmani, Peer Nisar Ahmad, Muzaffar Ahmad Ganie, Showkat Ali Beigh, Nazir Ahmad Rather, Mir Shabir Hussain, Haji Nazir Ahmad (Forest), Bashir Ahmad Thoker, Javid Ahmad Malik, Feroz Ahmad, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, Shaheen Nawaz, Mir Fayaz and Bashir Ahmad Tantray. |
