BJP Minister gets HC notice for encroaching forest land | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 11: What BJP has been preaching and practicing for decades in asking for swift action against those involved in irregularities and corruption, time has come for it to translate that sentiment into action while the party is in power. HC notices have been issued to one of its Ministers in a case highlighting forest land has been encroached on which educational institutions have come up in Sunjwan. While in opposition BJP would lose no time in coming on streets and staging loud protests when such matters involving politicians or officials in the administration used to come to fore. The party leaders would not just stage normal protests but even burn the effigies of those involved, no matter holding highest posts, its thrust being on swift action against the accused. The sentiment and spirits of BJP in not tolerating acts of corruption was quite appreciable as more often than not it would build pressure on the Governments in the past to take fast action against the culprits. The message that would go far and wide was that BJP means business when it comes to taking action against the elements involved in corrupt acts. From issuing statements to hurriedly calling press conferences in which the leaders would take on the Government or the party to which the Ministers belonged, on one hand, and on the other hand creating uproar in the legislature while raking up the issues to the hilt, this used to be the strategy of the party leadership while it was in opposition in the past. The leadership has pressed this thing to the logical conclusion in certain matters in asking that the corrupt elements be removed from the posts they have been holding and vehemently asking for resignation of the persons, how so ever senior he or she might have been whether Ministers or babus. So far so good. After the party came to power both at Centre and in the State in alliance with PDP, the party has been playing this tune and mantra from day one, in fact right from the time of elections that BJP doesn't believe in corruption nor would it tolerate any such matter, not to speak of sheltering or covering up the matters. Political observers contend now that one of its own Ministers has been under the cloud of irregularities having been committed, time has come to keep up its word and credibility in dealing with the matter swiftly. Would the concerned Minister like to resign till the charges are proved? Or would he just look other way round. |
