Govt flouts HC order, encroaches water body in Kot Bhalwal area | | | GS Asgotra Early Times Report Jammu, May 11: Showing utter disrespect to the verdict of High Court over removal of all illegal constructions along the banks of water bodies, the PDP-BJP Government has itself turned into a big encroacher by encroaching 513 kanals of land of Kanger Khad (seasonal rivulet) in Kot Bhalwal area of Jammu. After the September 2014 floods, the High Court had directed the Irrigation and Flood Control Department and District Commissioners to remove all illegal constructions on the banks of rivers. But two senior Ministers recently inaugurated a housing colony having 409 plots in Kot Bhalwal area. Sources said that in the name of revenue generation, the Government itself has left no stone unturned to violate the set norms envisaged in Water Resource Act, 2010. “The Act even restricts the disposal of little garbage into the water body, but Government has been openly encroaching upon the water body without caring for the Water Act and decision of High Court. “The incumbent Government of PDP-BJP has encroached nearly 513 Kanal land of the water body in outskirts in Kot Bhalwal area, which is in contrast to the claims of BJP, which boasts of saving the water bodies and forests from encroachments”, an official said. Criticizing the decision of Government, locals of area said that they had only the free land for grazing of cattle but same has been encroached upon, leaving no area for grazing and other activities. “The encroachment of water body in Kot Bhalwal is not an isolated case but time and again Government has encroached upon water bodies and ITI Samba, ITI Kathua are also established on land of water bodies”, official said. Pertinently, two Ministers of PDP-BJP Government had inaugurated a 513 Kanal housing colony having 409 plots at bank of Kanger Khad near Sanskrit University of Jammu at Kot Bhalwal. |
