TAT holds meeting | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 30: Tawi Andolan Team(TAT) under the leadership of Chander Mohan Sharma today held a meeting with the Sarpanches, Civil Society members, Environmentalists, who visited from different places/villages of Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts regarding revival of water bodies i.e. ponds, wells, Boulies and other traditional sources. These sources have been playing a great role in water conservation, and also recharging of ground water which is depleting very fast. The sarpanches and civil socity members also spoke on the importance of water conservation and pledged to extend full support to the Tawi Andolan. They also shared their concern of the various ponds which had faced apathy of the Government and public and have either vanished or encroached and strongly felt the need to revive them. Pathania from Kalibari Kathua also shared the list of 49 ponds of the Kandi area from Lakhanpur to Jammu, which should be taken up immediately for revival of these ponds well before the rainy season as per directions of Prime Minister Narinder Modi that every drop of rain water should be conserved. Chander Mohan Sharma apprised the gathering about the formation of separate wing for water conservation of water bodies under the Tawi Andolan so as to have whole-hearted focused group and which was named as 'Jal Sangrakshan and Swash Avyan and was endorsed by the gathering. Dr Prem Sharma of Tawi Andolan suggested that BDOs of various blocks should be requested to adopt minimum 2 ponds and if 30 BDOs come forward we can revive 60 ponds to start with. It was also informed that there have been well established around 350 ponds in the Kandi belt. Prof Bhola Nath, Chopra, Abhishek Sharma, Anju Dogra, Dr Prem Sharma, Joginder Khajuria contributed their valueable suggestions and support for this noble cause of "Jal hai to Kal hai". |
