Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 30: A joint protest of the casual laborers of various departments was held today against the government for its failure in fulfilling their long pending demands including release of pending salaries and regularization. Shouting slogans against the present PDP led dispensation, hundreds of casual laborers under the banner of JKNTUF led by senior JCC leader; Mohammad Gafoor Dar assembled at Lal Chowk and staged demos against the government for failing to address their long pending issues. The protesters were demanding regularization of jobs and release of salaries which they claimed is pending with the government for the last five years. "The basic objective of this protest is to highlight the genuine demands of casual laborers of various government departments, our question to the government is as to why it is shying away to implement its own agreement with regards to the regularization of casual laborers made with the trade union leaders from time to time," Dar told reporters. He claimed that the then NC-Congress led government also entered into written agreement with the employees in 2011 however the implementation is yet to see the light of the day. "In 2012 government after facing massive agitation again assured the leadership of fulfilling their demands but nothing substantial was done in this direction, if the employees whom government is treating as cattle's could perform their duties sincerely, what makes government to backtrack form its own promises," he questioned. He said that the government instead of instigating employees to adopt path of resistance should amicable solve the issue once for all. Casual laborers of various departments including that of Horticulture, floriculture, Forest department, Soil and Conservation, Wild Life and Contingent Paid Employees participated in the strike. Meanwhile massive protests were also held at Water Works Department at Rajbagh where employees accused the government of being casual towards their genuine demands. "It unfortunate that the government has done nothing for valley based employees, who have even not hesitated to sacrifice their lives while performing their duties," Chairman All Kashmir PHE Employees Federation Gulam Ahmad Nath said. He said that the government must come clean over the issues of the employees to avoid indefinite strike which will prove detrimental for the system. |
