Stranded pilgrims protest over 'repeated suspension' of yatra | | | Early times report
Udhampur, July 15: Alleging mismanagement for smooth flow of annual amaranth yatra, the stranded Amaranth Yatra staged demonstration here today at Battal Ballian of Udhampur district. Blaming the state government and district administration for adopting a callous approach towards the annual amaranth yatra following tensions erupted in Kashmir valley as the authorities time and again are suspending the yatra which is adding miseries to the pilgrims. "Knowing the infrastructure made available for the yatris the administration is suspending the yatra and creating mess at the transit camps/ langers enroute the pilgrimage in valley due to more pilgrims against the facilities at hand, the protestors said. Amid slogans of Bum Bum Bhole and others, the pilgrims questioned from authorities why the valley people disrupt yatra every year and not a single year has passed since 2008 when the annual yatra is not disrupted. Agitated pilgrims said, if they (valley youths) are attacking pilgrims and stone pelting their vehicles now than why the political leaders of J&K make hue and cry and seek security if any such stray incident of manhandling of the a youth is reported from other states. All attempts to contact Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Niraj Kumar turned futile while SP Udhampur Mohan Lal kainth brifely said that the district administration has made elaborate arrangements for boarding and lodging of stranded pilgrims. |
