Jammu, July 15: Strange are the ways in University of Jammu where the inefficient and deadwood are shielded while the hardworking and deserving are taken to task by none other than the present administration headed by its own faculty member who has failed to live up to the expectations of varsity stakeholders.
The sources informed Early Times that going by the punch line especially pasted by the Vice Chancellor of the University on the homepage of varsity website, "Do not seek favour from any quarter but have confidence in your merit", one is at a loss to understand the hitch which is blocking the university authority for taking to task Dr.V.V.V.Nagendra Rao for stalling the growth of Political Science course in DDE which was stopped by University Grants Commission more than a year ago.
The sources told that if merit and not the favour matters in the eyes of university administration then on which consideration Dr Rao is being favoured to overlook his negligence for stoppage of the course in the Distance Education Department. Saying that no accountability has been fixed so far on the defaulting teacher and this is one of the classical examples of administrative bankruptcy, the sources said, adding that there are several other identical cases in which university authority has shown non-seriousness to initiate any tangible action against the erring teachers.
The sources said that it looks very catchy to read the sermon of the university authority on the website but on watching the practical aspect of actions not being taken by the administration against defaulters for bringing the academic graph of the university at the lowest ebb , these sermons ostensibly appear to be a cosmetic touch of feelings but there is not an iota of rationality behind these expressions.
The sources further told that Dr.Rao has been working in the university since about eight years and is drawing handsome salary every month, but he awfully failed to draft the study material for Political Science subject of Semester-I (Under-Graduate course) due to which semester system could not be introduced in DDE last year within scheduled time. Thus he is not only making dent in the functioning of DDE , but also causing loss to the university exchequer as well.
The sources alleged that he along with other deadwoods in DDE tried their best to defeat the launch of semester system last year as again he failed to draft the study material well in time. However, the DDE administration got the study material prepared for launching the semester system this year by some retired professors by spending sizeable amount of money which could have been saved had Dr Nagendra Rao himself put in painstaking efforts to prepare the study material," they added.
Sources further told that Rao has not taken any class (UG-Part I) for the last many years. However, time table shows that Rao took class in UG Part II & III) but actually he never took those classes as he used to depute some scholars for the job or managed to club his classes with other ones, they alleged. This way he is playing tricks and polluting the system in DDE causing huge loss to the education system in DDE, they added.
Sources said that astonishing it may sound but true that Dr Rao has never checked the assignments of UG as also of PG students regularly as a matter of his duty and instead outsourced the work to outsiders which caused tremendous loss to the University exchequer, they alleged.
Sources further told that not only this ,Dr. Rao crossed his limits when he at his own allotted printing work of M.A Political Science, Semester 4 to his blue-eyed printers. Dr Rao was categorically insisting on his choice of printers for printing work. They alleged that he pressurized the Publication Committee to allot printing work to his favourites saying that he has the blessings of university authority to go in for the printers of his choice. Sources alleged that when it was objected by other members of the committee he allegedly threatened not to go for printing.
The sources said that the moot point of the matter is that why there is no system of fixing accountability put in place by the administration whenever they notice that the interest of the students are being done away with due to non-attendance of legitimate duties by such teachers, such unwanted elements in the university will continue to go scotfree at the hands of university authority setting a bad example of poor administrative set up prevailing in the varsity, they rued.
