| 125 buildings, police stations, posts damaged in Kashmir violence | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 15 : About 125 buildings, police stations and posts besides some railway propery has been damaged in the violence, erupted after the killing of top Hizbul Mujhideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants in an encounter in Kokernag in Anantnag district on last Friday evening.
As many as 38 people were killed and over 3000 others, half of them security personnel were injured in the violence. However, local media put the toll to 40.
We will dealt sternly with all those who will violate law, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, SMJ Gilani said adding action will be taken against the security forces who had crossed their limits.
The police chief in Kashmir appealed to people and civil society to help to restore normalcy in the Kashmir valley.
He said about 125 buildings, police stations and posts besides security force camps were attacked and damaged by the violence mob in the valley since Saturday. Railway property has also been damaged, he said.
Security forces have been issued strict instructions to follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Mr Gilani said when asked about the victims of security force firing having been hit in the face and chest.
He said if it is found that any security force personnel had violated SOP, action will be taken against such personnel.
However, he warned that all those who are found indulging in violence will also be not spared and action would be taken against them.
The IGP appealed to people, particularly youths to help the administration to restore normalcy in the valley.
Mr Gilani admitted that there were allegations that security forces damaged window panes of residential houses besides wind screen of vehicles.
We have received a video showing a security jawan damaging wind screen of a vehicle, he said adding we have identified the jawan and action has already been initiated.
He said people should come forward with such complaints so that proper action would be taken.
Meanwhile, reports from different parts of the valley, including Srinagar, said window panes of hundreds of houses, including at Shalteang, Natipora, Rambagh, Safa Kadal, Rainawari and Pampore. |
