HME deptt neglects rural health institutions
Kathua CHCs await power back up system

Jammu, July 15: The newly established Community Health Centers (CHCs) of district Kathua have been neglected by Health and Medical Education department, as the health institution still runs without power backup supply despite Rs.60 Lakh proposed by government in previous financial year.
A medico pleading anonymity told Early Times that to maintain the regularity of electricity in order to run the emergency services smoothly, previous year government has proposed to provide 20 KV power back up supply one at each including CHC Bani, Basohli and Billawar to these hospitals but yet not provided best reason known to higher authority of Health Department. At present these health institutions run on routine power supply.
At one hand Health Minister claimed that government is committed to strengthen health institutions across the state but their administration seems not interested to take it seriously, caused the rural hospitals were not capable to conduct major surgeries, reason behind that the hospital lacks basic facilities.
They further alleged that worth crores machineries installed by government in these hospitals but still lying defunct because of no experts to run the machine and it was gathering dust in the corner of hospital for years.
The posts of consultant including Surgeon, Gynecologist, Physician, Anesthetist and Paediatrics were sanctioned by government to these hospitals in documents but yet not single consultants were posted here since the posts sanctioned. The Medical Officers posts of these hospitals are not fulfilled against the sanctioned strength.
'People of the entire three constituency are poor economic and resided in far flung areas to cover a foot journey of miles to reach the health institution for their treatment but non- availability of services in here they disappointed. Many times when the doctors available here referred them to District Hospital or Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, they returned back to homes", they said, adding that the poor policies of government makes the health care of these peoples was on God's mercy.
Repeated calls were made by this Jurno to Chief Medical Officer Kathua, Dr Basant Sharma, he didn't respond the phone calls.
