JMC constitutes quick reaction teams to clear blockades in nallahs | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 27: In the wake of incessant rainfall, the Jammu Municipal Corporation constituted 6 quick reaction teams headed by three transport officers. The transport officers heading the teams include Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Prem Raj and Balbir Singh whose working was duly monitored by Chief Transport Officer Talat Mehmood Khan. The whole men and machinery reported on job at 5:00 A M and dispatched to various locations. The quick reaction teams cleared many blockades in various nallahs which has safe guarded the various areas from flooding. Both men and machinery were deployed early in the morning for removing blockades in trouble shooting nallahs of Jammu city to avoid any kind of flash flood to heavy rains. It is pertinent to mention that JMC has desilted all the nallahs well before the onset of monsoon season and has removed more than 1 lakh tons of garbage from these nallahs but due to sudden heavy rains water level in nallahs increased tremendously resulting in overflow at some places like Nanak Nagar, Krishana Nagar, etc. Also due to cloudburst there was flash flood in Excelsior lane of Janipur causing death of two minor girls and damaging whole of the lane. During the operation JMC used three heavy excavating machines, 6 dewatering pumps, 10 JCBs, 20 tippers along with 200 nallah gang labours were engaged to meet any kind of eventuality in case of over flooding of any big nallas. At various places the people of the localities who helped JMC during the desilting operation has welcomed and thanked the JMC staff for timely help for clearing the blockades. |
