Separatists declare mainstream politicians 'traitors' | Kashmir Unrest | | Ask people to boycott them, put their lives at stake
Early Times Report Jammu, July 27: Frustrated by the violence levels receding in Kashmir and Valley remaining calm separatists on Wednesday announced a war against mainstream politicians by asking people to boycott them socially. In a joint statement Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik said, "People should ostracize them (mainstream politicians ) and boycott them at all levels, socially and publicly. People shall refuse to interact with them at community and public places. They shall no longer be allowed to exploit the people." As the separatists were rejected by the youth on Tuesday and were asked not to issue shutdown calls or give relaxation, the sources said, separatists in order to divert the attention from them being turned "irrelevant" issued a statement against the mainstream politicians. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "By issuing a statement against mainstream politicians separatists have made them vulnerable. It's a hint to their supporters that they should start targeting the mainstream politicians to keep the pot boiling and foment trouble." He said, "It seems separatists want to pit people against each other so that more killings take place and they get enough dead bodies to run their shops. It's an established fact that mainstream politicians are public figures and have their own support base. Separatists calling for their boycott is an attempt to pro-long the present unrest in Kashmir." Its in place to mention here that a few days ago, separatists had asked the mainstream politicians to abandon the political parties and join the separatist camp. However, mainstream politicians remained tightlipped and did not react. A Kashmir watcher said, "Separatists are playing a wicked game by declaring mainstream politicians as traitors and are trying to recreate nineties like situation wherein many politicians and their aides were targeted and shot dead. It seems Pakistan has directed the separatists to ensure that normalcy should not be restored in restive Kashmir Valley this time. Situation is grim and one fears the statement issued by separatists has put the lives of mainstream parties and their supporters at stake." The separatists said, "Mainstream politicians and loyalist abettors of Government Of India and its subversive agencies are equal Partners in the crime against people of Kashmir. Since 1947 these collaborators have provided a local face to India's authoritarian rule which India exploits internationally to undermine our struggle." An analyst said, "Security agencies should take a serious note of the statement and initiate action against the separatists for putting the lives of mainstream politicians. They separatists should be booked and put behind bars to prevent the situation from becoming more complex and grave." |
