VVIP loot touches new heights in JK | Mantrirs stay in own houses, get Rs 50 lakh as HRA | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, July 27: The government in the past has paid around 50 lac rupees to the ministers as rent charges that too for staying in their very own houses, reflecting the worrisome state of affairs under which the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been reeling since decades. Documents in possession of the Early Times reveal that during the tenure of the former chief minister Omar Abdullah, his eight ministers were given around 50 lac rupees as house compensatory allowance by the government for residing in their own houses. Such a bizzrae measure by the authorities besides pricking the good governance balloon, caused exchequer heavy losses during the period of April 2010 to December 2014. Documents reveal further that these ministers were not entitled for any luxurious furniture items from the government of Jammu and Kashmir but ironically the government then issued furniture and carpets worth Rs 20 lac to these eight ministers of Omar Abdullah's regime. Sources divulge further that those officials in the government who strived in order to make such unlawful facilities available to the ministers too retained several benefits. Against providing carpets and Sofas to the residences of the ministers, some officials got furniture worth Rs 3.50 lac for their personal residences. Sources divulge that such a practise not only displayed the height of the VIP racisisim but also reflected how the government was more concerned towards the well being of the ministers while a common man was grappling for good governance on ground. Reports inform that due to the non- availability of the government accommodations, several ministers were paid monthly house compensatory allowance of rupees 15000 for residing in their own houses. The government while bestowing unjustified and uncalled for benefits to these VIPs provided the furniture worth Rs 19.66 lac. Rupees for four consecutive years. If sources are to be believed the furniture is yet to be returned to the government as it continues to remain in the possession of these former ministers. Sources added that these ministers are using the government assets with impunity and are showing least concern over returning it to the state dispensation. Reports maintained further that the estates department in the past has shot several letters to these blue eyed former ministers, reprimanding them over retaining the government assets. However, there has been no move forward from the side of these former mantiris. Sources said that the government was mulling to stop the NDCs of those former ministers who have not paid any heed to the repeated government directions over returning the furniture and the related entities. |
