JAMMU, July 27: Heavy rains and flash floods wreaked havoc as two girls got washed away while a woman died in house collapse in separate incidents across Jammu region. "Two girls got washed away due to flash flood this morning in Janipur area," Simrandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner Jammu said. The deceased were identified as Meenakshi (9), (a VI grade student of Blue Bird School), and Sonakshi Sharma aged six years , both residents of Janipur. Both the bodies were fished out and kept in mortuary of GMC Jammu, said the DC adding, "Relief of Rs four lakh each has been announced under SDRF to families of deceased." Meanwhile, due to overflowing drains in the winter capital, the roads got waterlogged thus putting the life to a halt. People faced hardship while travelling in vehicles. The water also entered the shops and houses in some of the localities. The locals, however, rued the district administration and the Jammu Municipal Corporation for not having planned strategy to meet the monsoon crisis. "Due to heavy rains, a tin shed collapsed near CRPF camp on Panthial road in Udhampur district resulting injuries to two persons," police sources here said. They said that the injured identified as Mubarak (24), son of Mohammad Anwar and Altaf Hussain (18), son of Bashir Ahmed, both residents of Mahore, who were shifted to the hospital. Meanwhile, incessant rains followed by thunder storm have claimed a life in Rajouri district due to house collapse and three other houses were also damaged in different parts of the district during last 24 hours. Out of four houses two were fully damaged at Kotdhara and at Sawni village while two houses each at Budhal and Chowki Handan (Nowshera) have received severe damages. At Sawni, Arshad Begam wife of Mohd Munir died on spot when her house collapsed on the intervening night of July 26 and 27 due to heavy rains while other members escaped unhurt. At Kotdhara, members of a family had a narrow escape when their house damaged fully due to heavy rains in the area. No loss to life and property was reported today from any other part of the district as the rain has stopped at about 12.30 pm. "District administration has provided Rs 10,000 as immediate help from Red Cross fund to the family members of deceased Arshad Begam for her last rites. Rs 2000 each and ration have been provided to other affected families whose houses were damaged on Tuesday and Wednesday" said Mohd Mumtaz Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner.
