'Burhan talked to me days before his death' | Geelani stands exposed woefully | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 28: The Huriyat hawk Syed Ali Geelani has set the alarm bells ringing by revealing that he was in contact with Burhan Wani- a Hizb commander who was eliminated by the security forces on July 8 in South Kashmir's Kokernag area. The 86-year-old Geelani, who heads conglomerate of various separatist outfits in Kashmir sent shock waves across in Kashmir valley by spilling the beans about him being in contact with the guerrilla fighter. Geelani, who in public could generally be seen exhibiting peaceful stand of his amalgam and advocating resolution of the pending issues through dialogue and peaceful means, all of a sudden, revealed his links with the militant groups. Geelani on Tuesday while addressing a gathering of people outside his Hyderpora residence here, said that four days before his death, Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani spoke to him. "Commander Burhan (Rehmatulaahi Alah) called me days ahead of his martyrdom," Geelani told the crowd that had gathered in a park outside his Hyderpora residence. As the crowd was dazzled by such a startling revelation, Geelani added "it was because of his great sacrifice that Kashmir movement has got a new life." Geelani's admittance of being in contact with the militant groups has once again made the skeletons tumble in Kashmir's political cupboards. As the separatist leaders have been denying any involvement in the militant related activities, the exposure coming out from none other than the senior most separatist leader could make worrisome for his other comrades. Geelani's revelation has come at the time when the government of India declared that the unrest in Kashmir is being managed by the militant groups actually. In upper house of the parliament, Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said on Wednesday that there has been a spurt in infiltration attempts from Pakistan and the security forces have responded to it, resulting in killing of 79 militants till June 30 this year. "Since a large number of terrorists neutralisation has taken place, the terrorist organisations based in Pakistan are now increasing their efforts to promote radicalisation through vested interest groups and social media and increase the attack on the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir forcing them to retaliate and give it a shape of civil resistance," he said replying to a written question. Ahir said security situation is monitored and reviewed regularly at all levels and security agencies work in close coordination to "thwart the nefarious designs of Pakistan sponsored militants." The Minister said there were 125 militancy incidents in the first six months of 2016 in comparison to 76 in the corresponding period of last year. Altogether 390 incidents of stone pelting took place till June 2016 in comparison to 224 in the corresponding period of 2015. There were 40 fresh recruitment of militants in Jammu and Kashmir in the said period in comparison to 34 in June last year, the government said. |
