Civic body transfers 6 kanals of khad land to private party at Paloura | HC’s directive, environment norms trashed | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 28: In complete violation of environmental norms and directions of the state high court, encroachment on six kanals of khud land has been allowed by a Government agency to a private party for construction purposes at Paloura few days back. The said agency has given a compound wall around the piece of land despite the protests by the residents who live in the vicinity and are in the direct neighborhood of the Khad. Their all pleas of protecting this land which belongs to Khad have fallen on deaf ears as the authorities did not budge form their stand and allowed the private party to go ahead with the construction work though knowing fully that the construction of Khad land is banned under law. The people living in the vicinity are running from pillar to post for justice but no one hears them. The authorities are rigid on their stand and they will only wake up after catastrophe. The environmentalists, while taking serious exception to such an arbitrary style of functioning of one of the government agencies in the State have demanded a thorough probe into the matter and also sought the intervention of the Forest and Environment Minister in the matter immediately. They have also demanded that notification of all ponds whether dry or full of water and preservation of water bodies by removing the encroachments from them so that the ecology is preserved and human bodies saved from peril. |
