NC, Cong display their pro-separatist credentials | Boycott of Independence Day function | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 16: That the defeated and unscrupulous Congress and NC would try to take political mileage out of the present situation in Kashmir was never in doubt. It was clear from day one that they would not miss an opportunity to add to the troubles of the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, and that they will not contribute to the peace process. Both the parties did it and did it on a daily basis. They didn't even once ask the seditious crowds to not take the law of the land in their own hands to avoid confrontation with the law and order authorities. Contrarily, they issued innumerable statements which further added fuel to the fire. They, in fact, accused the state government and the Union Government of leading to the present turmoil in Kashmir Valley. On the auspicious Independence Day, the Congress and the NC crossed all the lines to identify themselves with the theo-fascists and seditious crowds. They boycotted the official function, held at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar. And the arguments which they advanced were all the more spurious, despicable and untenable. The NC said that it boycotted the celebrations because the people of Kashmir had been caged. "We decided to stay away from the functions as people of Kashmir have now been caged for more than one month and there is no improvement in the Valley so far," said NC general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar. As for the Congress, its chief GA Mir cited security reasons. "He was not aware whether any party MLA or MLC have been issued invitation cards and provided adequate security escort to participate in the function". No one will buy his spurious argument. The fact of the matter is that both the NC and the Congress wilfully boycotted the function for political expediency overlooking the implications of their highly controversial and objectionable behaviour. They have not gained anything; they have lost everything in the sense that they respectability to the politics of sedition in the Valley at the cost of their own respective constituencies. |
