Landslide kills CRPF jawan near Vaishno Devi shrine | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 24: A CRPF jawan lost his life today afternoon when landslide hit near the Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi in Trikuta Hills of Katra town. Police sources said that a jawan of CRPF got buried under the debris when a landslide hit near Gate Number 3 at Bhawan of the holy cave shrine. However, yatra was not affected owing to the incident and continued from other gates and soon it will be resumed from this gate also after clearing of debris. As the incident took place police and troops of para-military forces deployed at Shrine rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. Police identified the deceased jawan has been identified as Head Constable Harvinder Singh of C/6 of village Gallia, District Hoshiarpur. Sources said the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board will to be releasing an ex- gratia of Rs 3.00 Lakhs to the next of Kin of deceased CRPF Jawan. Senior police officials said that today at around 1:00 pm rock sliding took place following which police alongwith paramilitary forces immediately started rescue cum evacuation operations which was on when last reports came in. Evacuation operation was still in progress as a huge rock slid resulting into death of one CRPF Jawan. Pertinently on August 6, land sliding was caused due to heavy rains at Shri Vaishno Devi Shrine and four pilgrims including 5-year-old were killed while nine others received injuries when they were enroute to holy shrine. After one of the injured succumbed to injuries on August 7 at Nariana Hospital Katra the toll reached to five. |
