Probe ordered into illegal allotment of construction works in Rajouri Locals unimpressed, seek Vigilance probe 8/24/2016 11:06:22 PM ET Follow UP AB Sharma Early Times Report Rajouri, Aug 24: Prompted by the recent Early Times report that Public Works Department was allotting construction works without requisite tendering to influential contractors, the PWD minister has ordered a time-bound inquiry. The PWD Minister AR Veeri said he has asked the Chief Engineer PWD Jammu to initiate an inquiry into the matter and submit a report within a week. Meanwhile the works which had been allotted without tendering in the Sunderbani sub division have been stopped. Officials said the concerned Executive Engineer asked the contractors to stop the works forthwith. The PWD Minister has particularly sought report into illegal allotment of the Darpull Road work, which was presently under execution. Last week the newspaper reported that in brazen violation of norms, the PWD of Sundarbani Sub-Division here has allotted works to the tune of over Rs 50 lakhs without tendering to "favourites". Officials said in 2015 the then Works Minister had issued formal orders that in a bid to increase transparency, works may be allotted only through tendering except for emergencies when the work of upto Rs 20-30 thousand could be allotted without tendering. But presently all works were being executed brazenly without requisite tendering. Dhaar Pul Road, the two-km link road falling in Panchayat Nallah Makoll, is undergoing up gradation. Sources said the work to the tune of Rs 7 lakhs was allotted to an "influential contractor" for construction of retention wall and other works while the concerned Executive Engineer, PWD allotted 200 bags to the concerned contractor. Meanwhile the locals are not satisfied with the internal inquiry. "Internal inquiry means PWD officials will probe misdeeds of their colleagues which is unfair...
