11 yrs on, Govt fails to provide full faculty to Degree College Basohli | | | Raj Sandeep Early Times Report Jammu Aug 25:The seriousness of government claiming to provide quality education to students in far flung areas can be measured from the facts that Govt Degree College Basohli is lacking full-fledged permanent faculty putting the academic career of students in jeopardy. Sources informed that there were eleven faculty members as against the sanctioned strength of sixteen positions in the year 2011 and all the eleven teachers were transferred by 2013 without providing replacement by the government till today. It was told that at present the sanctioned strength of permanent faculty has gone upto twenty eight members against which only two regular teachers are posted with one Principal of the college. They added that except Economics and Physics subjects, all the remaining twenty six positions are still lying vacant in the discipline of Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, English, Political Science, History, Math, Applied Math, EVS, Commerce, Hindi, Dogri, Urdu, Sanskrit, Education, PTI, Librarian etc. iThey further informed that eighteen positions of non teaching staff are sanctioned for the college, but in the absence of this staff, the whole office work of the college is being run by one Lecturer since pretty long time. Locals while talking to Early Times said that Degree College became a vitim of rivalry between two political partiies. Sources said that the college is more than four kilometers away from Basohli town and students coming from far off different areas are suffering badly with no local transport facility for staff and students to reach college. They added that except one college bus with meagre capacity, there is no other frequent transport facility available for the staff and students to timely reach college nor the administration seems to have any plans for providing the same in the near future. Ultimately they have to cover the long distance on foot sources said, adding that since the connecting road to college is totally secluded with its location in the forest area , the female staff and students are having no personal safety and security while usually covering the long distance on foot. While talking to Early Times, some of the students informed that they are interested to pursue their studies with dedication and devotation, but whole of their time is spent for coming from far flung areas covering even more than forty kilometers and then going back after attending college. They said that atleast hostel facility should have been put in place both for boys and girls so that they could save the time spent in to and fro and utilize the same for whole time studies in the college. The sources further said that the building of the college was constructed by National Building Corporation funded through UGC under the supervision of state government which was inaugurated in 2010. Despite lapse of six years the college building has not been handed over the concerned so far, the sources told, adding that due to substandard work carried for constructing building, it is has lost its grace with the passage of time with no one taking responsibility for its upkeep and maintenance nor there are sources for doing the same with the college administration. The sources said that similar appalling conditions seems to be prevailing in most of the Degree Colleges located in far flung areas and the government should pay heed to the deteriorating education system in the state for which the government is generally boasting of giving fillip to higher education system in the state. |
