PDP rebels join chorus, advocate breaking ties with BJP | | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Aug 25: In addition to the separatists, stone pelters and opposition camp, the concerns for the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti have been enhanced by certain quarters within her own party who have raised voice for severing ties with BJP. Since the day, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti assumed office of the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir on April 4 this year, some senior as well as middle rung leaders of the PDP weren't happy with the posts accorded to them. Some even were dropped from her cabinet. These rebels were waiting for an opportunity to sabotage the BJP-PDP applecart, which came their way when Hizb militant Burhan Wani was killed on July 8 that triggered valley wide violence and uncertainty. The strikes, protests, curfews and clashes took the death toll during the 46 days of chaos to nearly 70. Those within the PDP with differences with the Chief Minister began calling shots at the state dispensation. While some leaders even went on television, questioning chief minister's equanimity in continuing with the coalition dharma. They even advocated the ending of the democratically elected government and the imposition of the Governor's rule. "This is not something that some party leaders want for the betterment of people. They want their political ends to meet. All they want is vengeance for they feel that they have not been taken on board during the previous decision making processes," sources said, adding that more challenge this time for this 16-year-old party would be to tame rebels that have started making their presence felt and calling shots at the present regime. ""We can have the difference in opinion. It happens in all political parties but during the times of crises, a united face should have been exhibited before the outer world. Ironically what is being witnessed is the deliberate attempt by some to speak in different tones" said a senior office bearer of the party. |
