After attaining power, BJP forgets Chamail Singh's family | | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 25: While in opposition, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) had been demanding compensation, martyr status and government jobs for family of Chamail Singh-who was killed in a Pakistan Jail-but after getting power it has seemingly forgetten everything.. A cursory look at the statements made by BJP leaders from time to time before elections and after elections is enough to show the real face of BJP leaders. Before elections, BJP MP Avinash Rai Khanna, who was looking after party affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, had sought a compensation of Rs.25 lakh for the family members of Chamail Singh who was killed in Kot Lakhpat Jail on January 15, 2013, after inmates attacked him and beat him to death. He had also sought martyr status for Chamail Singh from state government of Jammu and Kashmir, when Omar Abdullah was Chief Minister of State. Moreover, same words were repeated by BJP leader Sat Sharma, who was state incharge of BJP cell and had appealed state government to look into the matter of Chamail Singh and compensate Singh's family at par with Sarabjit Singh's family. Sharma also had said that state government should provide government jobs to all four sons of Chamail Singh and also sought to grant the status of martyr to Chamail Singh but it was very unfortunate and surprising to notice that after coming to power in State as well as Center, the BJP leaders have forgot all. BJP is in power in Center as well as in Jammu and Kashmir with PDP but none of BJP leader, say a single word for the family of Chamail Singh in the last two years. Resident of Akhnoor, Dara Singh, elder son of Chamail Singh, while talking to Early Times regretted that after winning the elections, none of the BJP leader visited their place or called them over phone. "Leave aside the demand of compensation or martyr status, none has any time to meet us. All the announcements and demands were a tactic", Dara Singh said. He further said that they had high hopes with BJP leader, who have been raising their voices before coming to power but so far their words were not translated into action. Interestingly, before elections, BJP had been claiming that despite repeated demands, the UPA government in Centre and Omar led government in state had done nothing for Chamail's family and had promised that if their party would come to power they would provide justice to Chamail's family but so far the justice is still in oblivion. |
